Thank you for making the First Annual Mufindi Orphans
Fundraising BBQ a huge success!
On August 14, 2010 Janet and Peter van Zyl opened their beautiful yard and garden on the banks of the Rideau River in Manotick for the First Annual Fundraiser to support the children of Mufindi. The rain held off, the wind died down and the party was on, as people gathered for food, frolicking and fundraising. In total, they raised roughly $5,000, not to mention the $6,500 donation from the Hong Kong Rotary Club, which came about as an indirect result of this fundraising effort. Thanks to friends Joern and Maureen Boost for that generous donation.
Where to begin with our appreciations?Perhaps with all the generous folks who bought tickets; or maybe with those who generously brought and served the food, including beer donated by Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company.
Then there were all those who donated Silent Auction items – these included donations by the Chateau Laurier, the Sheraton, Kathleen Hunt, Janet and Peter Van Zyl, photographers Don White and Linda Nidzgorski, as well as fine artist Veronika Hart.Last, but certainly not least, there was live entertainment provided by Grateful We’re Not Dead and also by Roy Anderson.
Don White, lead singer of the Grateful We’re Not Dead deserves special mention for his new calling as auctioneer! Thanks to his gift of the gab, he literally sold the shirt off Nick Breedyk’s back and then auctioned off the remaining libations raising approximately another $400 for the cause. And we must mention Harley, whose six year old smile melted more raffle money into the pot than any sold by adults.
